English and Social Sciences
I have been at Fulford Academy since 2006. I received a B.Ed. from Queen’s University, and while I mostly teach English these days, I also sometimes find myself teaching social studies. I have taught a range of subjects in the classroom over the years, ranging from ESL to family living to business tech to world religions and geography, both to online and in-person students.
I have a deep appreciation for random trivia and have helped to supervise drama and soccer outside of the classroom. I’m a strong supporter of Green House, and I’m always eager to cheer its members on.
In the classroom, I like to be able to take advantage of the small class size a private school offers, and act as a facilitator, helping students to set individual learning goals and then develop strategies to achieve them over the term. I also appreciate the opportunities for discussion and sharing a small class offers, and the way it gives all students the opportunity to participate and develop their confidence in a respectful environment. I like to balance group work and all-class exercises with independent projects, and believe that developing critical thought and media literacy skills are an integral part of the English curriculum (I also genuinely like Shakespeare!)
