About This Program

Fulford Academy’s ESL Foundation Program is designed for international students who need to build their English language skills before entering the regular academic stream.

In this program, we focus on assisting students to improve English proficiency in all areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. This ensures that students build confidence and develop the language skills required to thrive in not only an academic setting but also in Canadian life, preparing them for university applications and navigating a globalized world.

  Key Highlights

Intensive Language Immersion:

This program provides a comprehensive approach to language acquisition, combining academic English with practical communication skills for success both in and out of the classroom.

Content-Based Learning:

Students engage in learning English through academic content to develop both language skills and subject knowledge simultaneously. This approach prepares them for success in academic subjects and university-level studies.

Fall or Winter Enrollment:

Unlike most private or independent schools that only offer full-year programs, students have the advantage to start in the ESL Foundation Program at Fulford for the Fall Term and advance into the Academic Program in February or in the Winter Term to advance into the academic program in September (depending on language advancement). Each Term consists of 4 academic credits and allows flexibility for a student's timetable to meet OSSD diploma requirements.

Personalized Instruction:

Our small class sizes allow for individualized attention, ensuring that each student progresses at their own pace and receives the support they need to succeed.

Pathway to Academic Success:

As students develop their English proficiency, they are gradually introduced to the regular academic curriculum, ensuring a successful transition into our Grade 9-12 or UQY programs, or a boarding school of their preference, once they are ready.

Cultural Integration:

In addition to language instruction, students participate in activities designed to introduce them to Canadian culture and help them adapt to their new environment.

Tailored Support for Every Student
