Social Sciences
My name is Erica Sands. For the past four years, I have been teaching social sciences at Fulford Academy, where I also coach curling, golf, and an art club. I bring more than 13 years of teaching experience across diverse educational settings, ranging from preschool to adult education. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in the Science of Teaching, both obtained from the State University of New York at Potsdam.
Throughout my teaching journey, I have adopted a student-centered philosophy. By creating an inclusive and engaging classroom atmosphere, I motivate students to explore diverse perspectives and connect their learning to both personal and academic goals. My method integrates interactive lessons, collaborative projects, and chances for self-reflection, ensuring that each student feels both supported and challenged.
Beyond the classroom, I am passionate about gardening, both indoor and outdoor plants. I have a deep love for animals and enjoy traveling. At home, I share my space with my dog, Ruby, and two cats, Wednesday and Alby. I believe that nurturing a connection with nature and exploring new places enriches the soul and encourages a sense of wonder and curiosity. Whether tending to my garden at home or embarking on a journey to distant locales, I am constantly reminded of the intricate beauty of our world and the importance of embracing every opportunity to learn and grow.
My goal as an educator is to inspire curiosity and resilience in my students while equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive. I am committed to lifelong learning and continually seek opportunities to grow professionally and personally.
